Looking for alternatives for your Beautycounter products? Since the brand shutdown in April 2024, many people are looking for easy Beautycounter swaps that actually work. Here’s a complete list of safe, effective, and vetted replacement products that won’t break the bank!
While I’m a big fan of many different clean beauty brands, Beautycounter has always been at the top of my list. The products are safe and effective, and they have a variety of high performing skin care treatments.
But, on April 18, 2024, Beautycounter was unexpectedly shutdown. The former owner, The Carlyle Group, stopped funding the business only a few short years after acquiring a majority stake. This was a controversial decision, especially given the success of Beautycounter prior to Carlyle’s involvement. Carlyle didn’t understand the clean beauty industry, and because it wasn’t making a quick profit, they opted to let it go into foreclosure.
Gregg Renfrew, the founder of Beautycounter, purchased certain assets of the brand through the foreclosure sale. While it’s not currently operating, Beautycounter will hopefully return by the end of 2024.
Given the uncertainty of when and what products will return, I’ve put together a list of Beautycounter alternatives so you know exactly what to use instead. These are easy Beautycounter swaps I’ve tested, vetted, and know work! If you have any additional questions, feel free to join my Clean Beauty list or reach out below!

Beautycounter Alternatives: What to Use Instead
Below is a list of 1:1 swaps for all of the most popular Beautycounter products. Each swap contains similar active ingredients and targets the same concerns. All product recommendations are safe, effective, and do not contain any known harmful or undisclosed ingredients, like fragrance.
What this isn’t? Haphazard recommendations that aren’t actually similar to the product you currently use because I want you to buy a product from a specific brand. While my goal is to keep recommendations simplified to a few specific brands I trust, I will never recommend a product that’s not an equitable swap when considering skin type, active ingredients, and performance.
Here’s what I’ve tested, vetted, and recommend as Beautycounter alternatives:
Dry Skin
- Countermatch Foaming Cleanser: Herbivore Pink Cloud Creamy Jelly Cleanser is an incredibly lightweight liquid cleanser for all skin types. It’s soft and creamy, and foams ever so slightly when you add water. And yes, it removes makeup too!
- Countermatch Hydra-Gel Toner: Crunchi Clarilight Facial Essence is a MUCH better option. Gentle witch hazel and exfoliating acids to help bring out brighter skin.
- Countermatch Adaptive Moisture Lotion: Crunchi Daylight Facial Cream is the perfect adaptive day moisturizer for dry skin. It’s lightweight and leaves skin so soft!
- Countermatch Recovery Sleeping Cream: Crunchi Nightlight Facial Cream is an absolute dream! It has a thick, whipped texture and is very moisturizing for dry skin.
- Countermatch Intense Moisture Serum: Herbivore Cloud Jelly Pink Hydration Serum is great for dry skin. It’s plumping and has Temella Mushroom, which performs incredibly well.
- Countermatch Eye Rescue Cream: The Herbivore Super Nova Vitamin C Brightening Eye Cream is fantastic. It has vitamin C and caffeine to brighten and awaken eyes. Love the texture on this and use it daily!
Aging Skin
- Countertime Lipid Defense Cleanser: Try the Herbivore Pink Jelly Cleanser. It’s a milky cleanser that suds up and removes makeup! Great for aging and sensitive skin. If you want a true cleansing oil, go for the Pai Rosehip Cleansing Oil. This nourishing cleanser milks up when you add water and can be rinsed away.
- Countertime Antioxidant Soft Cream: Crunchi Daylight Advanced Facial Cream is a dream! I use this daily now! It has a similar texture and vitamin c and bakuchiol to reduce the signs of aging.
- Countertime Mineral Essence: Crunchi Clarilight Facial Essence is a gentle toner with witch hazel and resurfacing acids. It feels just like Countertime!
- Countertime Radiance Tripeptide Serum: Go for the Crunchi Goldenlight 15% Multi-Peptide Facial Serum. I’ve use this nightly now and it’s my favorite find thus far! It’s highly concentrated with peptides and hyaluronic acid.
- Countertime Supreme Cream: I LOVE the Crunchi Nightlight Advanced Facial Cream. It’s has a whipped texture and is super moisturizing. I’ve been wearing this nightly now because it has a combo of vitamin C and bakuchiol.
- Countertime Eye Cream: Crunchi Powerlight Eye Cream is an even swap with vitamin c, hyaluronic acid, and peptides. It’s an eraser for fine lines and reduces puffiness. I find this is an even better fit for sensitive skin!
Oily or Blemish-Prone Skin
- Countercontrol Clear Pore Cleanser: Herbivore Aquarius Clarity Cleanser is an awesome cleanser specifically formulated with gentle resurfacing acids to help clear out pores. I use this on sweaty days during the summer! If you need a deeper “scrub” cleanser, go with the Odacite Black Mint Clarifying Cleanser. It’s specifically for oily and blemish-prone skin. You can rotate this in in the summer, or 1-2x a week depending on your skin type.
- Countercontrol Toner: Primally Pure Everything Spray is a gentle toner with witch hazel that reduces inflammation. I’ve been using this post workout for years and it helps prevent breakouts!
- Countercontrol Acne Treatment: Indie Lee Banish Solution is a great swap. This has salicylic acid and can be used for a few hours or overnight for all over breakouts.
- Countercontrol SOS Spot Treatment: Indie Lee Banish Stick or Banish Gel has wintergreen-derived salicylic acid and clay—a fantastic 1:1 swap! Love that this is so easy to apply.
- Countercontrol Gel Cream: Herbivore Aquarius Pore Purifying Clarity Cream is fantastic for oily and blemish-prone skin. It has a similar lightweight texture.
Treatments
- All Bright Vitamin C Serum: Crunchi Vitamin C Facial Serum is the holy grail! It’s highly concentrated and uses a stable, high quality form of vitamin C (Ascorbyl Glucoside) that’s great for all skin types, including sensitive skin. It also contains ferulic acid, which helps boost the efficacy of vitamin C, and potent antioxidants. I use this every morning!
- All Bright Resurfacing Toner: Crunchi Clarilight Facial Essence is a gentle toner with witch hazel and resurfacing acids.
- Overnight Resurfacing Peel: Herbivore Milky Way 10% AHA serum is a leave on overnight resurfacing serum with powerful exfoliating acids. Use this 2-3x a week at night and follow up with a moisturizer.
- Charcoal Mask: The Indie Clearing Mask has clay, salicylic acid, and resurfacing acids to draw out impurities.
- Charcoal Cleansing Bar: Love the Crunchi Charcoal Bar. I’ve been using it every morning after my workout.
- Reflect Effect AHA Soothing Mask: Crunchi Facial Exfoliator is a mask treatment with a 10% blend of resurfacing acids. You can be immediately rinsed off for a gentle treatment, or you can leave it on for 5 minutes for a more intense treatment. I do this 1-2x a week and it’s all the exfoliation I need!
- Brightening Facial Oil: Crunchi Luminous Facial Oil is fantastic for improving skin texture. Follow up with the Daylight Advanced Facial Cream to layer it with vitamin C.
- Cleansing Balm: Crunchi Makeup Cleansing Balm is a silky balm that melts away makeup. Follow up with your favorite cleanser as a double cleanse.
- Mighty Plump Ceramide Water Cream: Biossance Repair Cream has ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and fatty acids to help plump skin. It has a very similar lightweight texture and immediately improves appearance of skin!
- All Bright AHA Toner: Indie Lee’s AHA Exfoliating Solution is an 15% AHA exfoliating treatment that leaves skin soft and glowing. I’d use this 1-2x a week, as it’s a bit stronger. For daily use, use the Crunchi Clarilight Facial Essence, which has a lower dose of AHAs and hyaluronic acid.

Sure, appreciate all this information, I am looking for a replacement for Beautycounter eye make up remover
Noelle Tarr, NTP, CPT says
If you’re looking for wipes, try the Honest Beauty Makeup Remover Wipes. Or, do a double cleanse! Use a makeup removing cleansing balm to melt away makeup, then wash with a nourishing cleanser!
Lauren says
Any recommendations for an alternative to the Refresh Foaming face cleanser?
Noelle Tarr, NTP, CPT says
Yes! For Beautycounter’s Countermatch Foaming Cleanser, I recommend the Pink Jelly Cleanser or if you want something more foaming, try the Easy Does It Foaming Cleanser.
DebM says
Noelle, Thank you for the time you put into this replacement product list for Beauty Counter. I just learned of Beauty Counter situation when I went to reorder the Sugarbuff Body Polish (which I love) this morning. Very upsetting/disappointing. I will give your recommendation of Coco Rose Body Scrub from Herbivore a try. I sure hope you’re getting a kickback from these replacement companies with all the work you’ve put into this and business you’re sending them. I look forward to digging into your website.
Noelle Tarr, NTP, CPT says
Thank you, Deb! I really appreciate your feedback and support through all of this! Hoping you see some positive results with the Beautycounter swaps list!
Marit says
Thanks so much for putting this together Noelle!
Noelle Tarr, NTP, CPT says
hope it helps! 🙂
Annie says
I’m struggling to find a replacement for the Counterstart Cocoboost Moisturizer. I’ve tried Paula’s Choice but all of their moisturizers remind me of A&D cream. I am looking for something that is dewy for a dewy look. I’m spending so much money looking for something 😩
Noelle Tarr, NTP, CPT says
Hey Annie! So sorry to hear that. Counterstart was an entry-level lightweight moisturizer without a ton of active ingredients. I would try something like Crunchi’s Daylight Facial Cream. I used to use Counterstart in the morning and now I use this. If you want a more dewy look, try using a facial oil. Apply a drop or two to your face underneath your moisturizer, or you can add a small drop to the daylight moisturizer itself! I love this Luminous Facial Oil. Hope that helps!
Salina says
Hi Noelle, thanks for compiling this list! I’m looking for a swap for BeautyCounter Countersun Daily Sheer Defense SPF 25. I’m allergic to so many sunscreens and this is the only one to which I have no reactions! Thanks.
Noelle Tarr, NTP, CPT says
Hi Salina! I recommend this: Crunchi’s Sheer Facial SPF. It’s specifically formulated for facial skin and it’s almost exactly like the Beautycounter one! I used it daily now and I have sensitive skin. I really like their return policy too. Test it out and if you have a bad reaction, they have a 30-day money-back guarantee.
MJ says
Thanks so much for all the recs! I’ve seen a bunch of ads for alpyn beauty products lately, have you tried any yet / would you recommend any? Thank you!
Noelle Tarr, NTP, CPT says
Hi MJ! Thanks! I haven’t tried them personally—but I did consider ordering one of their cleansers! Check Credo Beauty for honest reviews to see how they perform.
